Well, unfortunately we had to cancel our weekend trip to Mt. Rainier National Park this past weekend. Sick kiddos : ( For the record, these were our plans:
- Friday: Drive approx. 4 hours in the afternoon to La Wis Wis Campground and hopefully get there before dinner. This campground is just a few minutes outside the southeast entrance to the park. Car camp there Friday and Saturday nights.
- Saturday: Drive approx. 45 minutes and spend the morning at the Henry Jackson Visitor Center up in Paradise Valley. Hopefully do the short trails, Nisqually Vista and Narada Falls. Hike the Grove of the Patriarchs (back near the campground) in the afternoon.
- Sunday: Get up super early and drive approx. 1 hour to the Sunrise Visitor Center. As with the other VC, we wanted to get there around 7 or 8am to beat the crowds and see the morning light on the mountain. Hikes here on our short list are Sunrise Nature Trail, Sourdough Ridge, and Shadow Lakes Trail. Then drive a van of sleeping kids home in the evening!
Honestly, with how much camping and traveling the six of us do, we feel pretty fortunate sickness doesn’t ruin more plans! And, as far as having a trip ruined goes, this was a good one since we only lost out on our campsite reservation. Actually, it felt good to have a down weekend – we’ve been go-go-go! There’s a small chance we’ll try to get there this fall but if not, next summer.
