Our elaborate plans are needing to change again. Gotta be flexible! Looking ahead to 2019, we have some big events for Elizabeth and Lucas on the first week of May . . . right when we had planned to go to Great Basin, Capitol Reef, Bryce, and Zion. So we’re flip flopping with one of the other desert trips.

Mt. Rainier Plans Scrubbed
Well, unfortunately we had to cancel our weekend trip to Mt. Rainier National Park this past weekend. Sick kiddos : ( For the record, these were our plans:
Must-See: Burney Falls, CA
Pictures are up for the three parks we saw on our last trip but I’m still working on the write-up. In the meantime, we thought we’d share one of the awesome places we saw outside the parks . . . Burney Falls in northern California.
Throwback Friday
Back in college, which I like to think was not that long ago, Katie and I took a three week trip to Europe over Christmas break. It was originally intended to be a trip just to Italy but we thought, “How cool would it be to be in Paris for the new year?” From there, the number of stops ballooned and the time for each shrunk. This would become our modus operandi on future trips : ) We ended up spending time in 14 cities in 7 different countries. (Incidentally I wish we had gone to a different city than Paris for the new year – They didn’t have a fireworks show and London’s is fantastic.) Regardless, it was a blast!
We were just as into taking pictures and journaling our travels then as we are now and when we got back, I put together my first website using some crude skills from a recent Photoshop class. I’ve dusted it off and got it in (mostly) working order to share it again. Check it out at europe.arrowheadendeavor.com
Planning (Way) Ahead
Katie and I got to daydreaming about future trips and the idea came up that we should take the train for our trip to the Dakotas. I should probably be writing up our latest adventure to Crater Lake, Lassen, and the Redwoods (pictures are almost ready to be posted!) instead of planning a trip that is 8 years from now but I can’t help but check on the feasibility and outline the big picture!
Ring of Fire
We’re back from visiting three more National Parks! Our road trip through Washington, Oregon, and California covered almost 2000 miles and we camped a total of 8 nights in Crater Lake, Lassen Volcanic, and the Redwoods. It was amazing and the kids did great – we hiked a bunch, there was almost no complaining on the long drives, and they were still getting along and not tired of camping by the end! We’ll get our write-up and photos posted as soon as we can.
The Day Productivity Stood Still
Well, like everyone else in the US, the total solar eclipse captivated our attention Monday morning! We just got a partial eclipse in our neck of the woods (88%) but still, how awesome! We thankfully had glasses but even without, the show could be enjoyed via the crescent-shaped sun spots coming through the trees.
Watson Lakes Backpacking
This past weekend (July 22-23) was the second annual backpacking trip with Elizabeth and Lucas! We headed to the Anderson and Watson Lakes in the mountains east of Baker Lake.
Crater-Lassen-Redwoods Plan
We have another big trip this year – this one is a road trip down the West Coast to see Crater Lake, Lassen Volcanic, and the Redwoods. Katie and I have been to Crater Lake before but this will be our first “official” visit. Neither of us have been to the other two – in fact, I have never even stepped foot in California! Here’s the plan . . .
The Master Plan
Here it is . . . the master plan to see them all . . .
